Ramen and Chestnut mont blanc. Must-try dishes in Tokyo. Ramen nation favourite consisting of noodles served in protein broth. The Mont Blanc is a dessert of puréed sweetened chestnuts.
In this fourth episode, Marc will take on you on an adventure to Tokyo where he discovers it various and Japanese popular food.
Let us talk about ramen
Ramen is the most popular dish in Japan and considered as fast-food. Ramen restaurants can be found in every Japan street corner and served in many variations depending on the region. At some Ramen shops, you can choose the type of Ramen you need from a vending machine, you pay and get a ticket, then you hand over to the chef and you will receive your Ramen served at your table. Fast and easy!
The broth is rich in flavours, made from chicken but often contains pork, beef or fish. It is usually topped with hard-boiled egg and vegetable variation, such as onion, shiitake mushrooms, bean sprouts and seaweed. Miso ramen is the most well-loved versions of ramen around the world. Every ramen restaurant in Japan has a unique recipe.
Four types of Japanese ramen decided by base flavour exists.
Shio salt-based ramen, Shio is generally the lightest, chicken broth-based soup.
Shoyu soy sauce-based ramen. The soup consists of a vegetable and chicken broth with soy sauce and has a clear brown colour and has a light taste.
Miso soybean flavoured ramen. This Ramen is very popular around the world due to its well-known miso flavour. It has a miso-based broth and a creamy texture.
Tonkotsu pork bone broth ramen is made from pork meat and bones. It contains the most calories. The broth flavour is rich in taste, strong and very thick soup base.
A wide variety of ramen exists in Japan, it is something that should be on the bucket lists for almost everyone coming to visit Japan. Shops making tasty ramen noodles are everywhere & you surely won’t miss it.
The second prize speciality is the Chestnut Mont Blanc
My favourite is the Mont Blanc a dessert of puréed, sweetened chestnuts topped with whipped cream of which 200,000 are sold each year at Cafe de Ginza, Miyuki-kan. Can you imagine that? This cafe serves cakes, pastries and coffee in a brasserie Parisian atmosphere. The staff was friendly but speaks little English. However, In my opinion, the restaurant interior was too dark for my taste. I surely recommend the decadent Chestnut mont blanc dessert. For those of you who loves food these dishes must be on the bucket list.
