WHAT IS A DAL MAKHANI?

Dal makhani is popular dish loved by Indians. Originated from the Punjab region of the Indian . The Main ingredients are whole black lentil, red kidney beans, butter and cream. This excellent dish gets its richness from the use of cream and masala’s.

INGREDIENTS

Black lentil 800 grams
Yellow lentil 200 grams
Red kidney beans 200 grams
Canola oil 3 Tablespoon
Bay leaves 2 pieces
Ginger diced 20 grams
Garlic Diced 20 grams
Coriander powder 1 Tablespoon
Kashmiri chili 1 Tablespoon
Cumin powder 1 Tablespoon
Turmeric powder 1 tablespoon
Blanched blended tomatoes 4 units
Unsalted butter 3 Tablespoon
Full fat cream 3 tablespoon
Salt 1 Tablespoon
Kastoori Mehti 1 teaspoon

METHOD OF COOKING 
Step 1

First step we need to soak the red kidney beans, black and yellow lentil overnight. The water must cover the beans at least for 3 inches above. Drain them and cook in 6 cups of water with a pinch of salt. This process will makes the lentil Indian dish softer.

Step 2

Take a sautés pan on medium heat, then heat the oil and the bay leaves. Add the blended ginger garlic paste and soften the mixture. Add the entire masala’s, Cumin powder, coriander powder, Turmeric powder, Kashmiri chili powder then add the blanched tomato puree and mix on a low heat until everything is well combined. If you are someone who loves the authentic style of Dal Makhani, then we suggest you to use ghee instead of using sunflower or canola oil.

Step 3

Once the masala is ready you can add the soft beans, and Stir well and bring to boil. if you think that the paste is too thick you can add some water. Then add the full fat fresh cream and butter and stir well. This will make your Dal Makhani creamy and delicious. Finalize with the Kastoori Mehti while tuning off the heat and mixing the entire dal.

Step 4

Garnish this recipe with fresh cream and fresh coriander leaves. You can serve this indulgent dish with naan, paratha or rice.
